Release No. 19-2 ADV

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Keegan Shepardson has been appointed to serve as the Region 1 Advocate for the Office of Advocacy at the U.S. Small Business Administration. In this role, Shepardson will advocate on behalf of small businesses in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. He will work with small business owners, state and local government agencies, state legislators, and trade associations, to be their voice in Washington, D.C., regarding burdensome regulations and other small business roadblocks.

“Region 1 is in great hands with Keegan Shepardson,” said Acting Chief Counsel Major L. Clark, III. “His background working with small businesses has well prepared him for his new role as Region 1 Advocate, and we are happy to welcome him to the Advocacy team.”

Shepardson stated, “I am honored to be the voice advocating for New England’s small business community with our lawmakers in Washington. President Ronald Reagan once said, ‘We in government should learn to look at our country through the eyes of the entrepreneur, seeing possibilities where others see only problems.’  I will keep these guiding words in mind while I am advocating for small businesses in Region 1. I will learn everything I can from every single small business I encounter. I will push for the reform possibilities proposed by New England’s small businesses and ensure that every business gets a chance to be heard.”

Shepardson has had extensive contact with business owners throughout his career. He has worked in the insurance industry with a major national association, and he is licensed in casualty and property insurance in 49 states. He has been an account manager at a small business services firm. He is a graduate of New England College in Henniker, N.H., with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

The Office of Advocacy has regional advocates in each of the 10 federal regions, plus a national rural affairs advocate, and a manufacturing and technology advocate. This team identifies new issues and concerns of small business owners. They work closely with local government officials, state officials and legislators, and the Chief Counsel for Advocacy to develop programs and policies that support small business growth.

Keegan Shepardson is located at SBA Region 1 Headquarters- 10 Causeway Street, Suite 265, Boston, MA, and can be reached at
