Advocacy Comments on the Energy Conservation Standards for Direct Heating Equipment
On October 7, 2011 the Office of Advocacy (Advocacy) filed public comments with the Department of Energy (DOE) regarding its proposed rule for Energy Conservation Standards for Direct Heating Equipment.
- On July 22, 2011, DOE published the proposed rule seeking to change the definition of “vented hearth heater” to include vented gas log sets and to simultaneously provide an exclusion from that definition for decorative vented gas log sets.
- Advocacy and small businesses in the industry are concerned that DOE has not followed the requirements for proposing a new standard for vented gas log sets.
- Advocacy is also concerned that DOE has relied upon inaccurate and outdated information to find that the rule is technologically feasible or economically justified.
- Advocacy encourages DOE to reach out to small businesses in the industry to obtain more accurate information before deciding whether to pursue this regulation.
